                                    A FACE OF DIGNITY


                          " Madam please, please one moment madam"
                            I stopped and stared
                            A thin haggard face
                            Pleading eyes ready to bulge out 

                             The frail form starved
                            Peeking out of his torn shirt                        
                            And a shoe-polish box in his hand
                             Screaming aloud
                            Conviction of courage had stitched it 

                            He the future of tomorrow
                            Stood in my front
                            "Can I polish your shoes madam 
                            I will really shine your shoes madam"
                            Pleading,  begging work
                            To buy food
                            To breathe in night through the day 

                             "Yes, yes"
                            Somehow I muttered 
                            And tasted my own blood
                            
                            The lost childhood
                            Struggling , surviving
                            Fighting for life 
                            With all his might

                             A face of dignity
                             Ingrained
                             In the frail form of this little boy
                             Stamped by conviction 
                             Of courage and of hope
                             A face of dignity
